| Description |
The Phillips family started in the seafood business along Maryland's Chesapeake Bay around the turn of the century with the A. E. Phillips & Son processing plant. In 1956, Brice and Shirley Phillips, along with their sons Steve and Jeffery, moved to Ocean City, Maryland. They opened a small carryout restaurant called Phillips Crab House as a way of selling excess crabs from their family's plant. Business grew quickly and the once small carryout grew into a two-story restaurant seating 1400. In 1973, the Phillips opened their second location on Ocean City's boardwalk. Phillips Beach Plaza Hotel and Phillips By The Sea Restaurant. In 1977, they opened the doors to Phillips Seafood House at 141st Street in north Ocean City. The association with the people of Baltimore, Maryland as they vacationed in Ocean City, made Baltimore an ideal location for expansion. They held the grand opening of Phillips Harborplace on July 2, 1980, and it has been the toast of the town ever since. In December of 1985, Phillips Flagship on the SW waterfront of Washington, DC opened. |
