MO’NIQUE TO APPEAR AT SECURITY SQUARE MALL, NOV. 7
EVENT: Actress, comedienne and author, Mo’Nique will return to her native Baltimore for a free book signing and discussion of her newest book, Skinny Cooks Can’t Be Trusted.
“From the cover of Essence to the stage at the Apollo, from reruns of her hit show The Parkers to her just-renewed reality show Fat Chance, Mo’Nique is ubiquitous and exults in the joys of being a large woman.”
In the follow-up to her the New York Times and Essence bestseller, Skinny Women Are Evil, Mo’Nique explores the great love of her life – food. “But not the food we are sold in the South Beach Diets or The Zone. She’s talking food with flavor, from mashed potatoes and gravy to sugar and butter.”
Mo’Nique’s earliest recollections of good food started in her mother’s kitchen in Baltimore. Despite working long hours, with a husband and four kids to feed, Miss Alice had dinner on the table every evening by six o’clock. She ran her kitchen like a restaurant, serving steak, baked potatoes and string beans. Though Mo’Nique’s palate has matured, she still misses the way she and her family and friends bonded over a wonderful barbecue, a sweet potato pie and a plateful of spice-fried chicken. That’s why, when Mo’Nique’s hectic schedule permits, she pulls out the pots and pans and cooks for friends and family.
For years, Mo’Nique wanted to create a cookbook “filled with down home recipes that get people scrapin’ the bottom of the pot for fourths and fifths. (Seconds and thirds are a given for Big Girls). In Skinny Cooks Can’t be Trusted, Mo’Nique is proud to bring back the days when folks didn’t know what soy and tofu were, when there were no substitutes to mess up the flavor, just menus that had folks begging for the recipe.”
Complete with beautiful photographs of Mo’Nique and her delicious recipes, Skinny Cooks Can’t be Trusted, is being touted as a must-have on cooking and holiday wish lists.
